LMF: Why don't we start off with you introducing yourself.
U: Well, I go by the name of Uness and I live in Montreal, Canada. I'm 20
years old and representing the Sagittarius!!! I play basket ball when
I'm not at the studio, which means, NEVER!!(Laughs) I like Sushi and
good Mexican food but nothing can beat my mother's Couscous!!!
LMF: When did you know you wanted to be a singer?
U: It's hard to say. You don't really wake up one day and decide that you
want to be a singer. I think I just let it come. The more I listened to
music, the more it moved me and the more I wanted to embrace it. I
thought I liked it so much that I wanted to make it a part of my
everyday life.
LMF: Describe your music to someone who has never heard it before.
U: All I can tell you about my music is that it comes from my soul. It's
my story. Whether it is in the lyrics or in the music, I opened up and let
all my feeling take over during the creative process. I guess some
keywords are "true" and "passionate".
LMF: What was the process of recording your album like?
U: It was very long and laborious. We spent long hours in the studio
composing and recording, sometimes all night until dawn. But it was a
great and fun experience. The kind of experience that makes you change
and evolve spiritually. I sure would do it again!!!!
LMF: Do you have a favorite song off of it? If so which one and why?
U: Man, that's a hard one...They are all my babies you know. But let's put
it this way: It depends on my mood. If I am hype, in the car driving to
the club, I would crank some "Woke Up the Mummy" up. Then after the
club, I wanna relax a bit, I would listen to "Get that Ring". When I am
a little down and alone, wouldn't say no for some "Thought of you"
etc...
LMF: Who are your biggest musical influences?
U: I would say Brian McKnight played a big role as far as my voices and
vocal arrangements go. Musiq Soulchild and India Arie also made me see
things differently. Most definitely BoyzIImen are like my spiritual
mentors, but I don't think they know it!!(laughs)
LMF: If you could plan your own tour, which artists would you take out
on the road with you?
U: Good question....Without I a doubt I would take Christina Millian. That
way I can take her on a date after every show and eventually we would
get married and the whole nine. No seriously, besides the fact that I
find her very sexy, I really like what she does.
LMF: There are a lot of male artists out right now, what sets you
apart from the rest?
U: I guess everyone has got something to say, a message to pass. We are
all different, coming from different places. The People out there are
looking for something new, a new vision, a new personality. Well, I
have come a long way myself, and I have many things to share with the world.
That is the main purpose of this album.
LMF: What was your first on stage experience like?
U: I can recall that moment; it was at the graduation show, in my high
school. I teamed up with my friend who could play piano, because I didn't play
piano at the time, and I was not the guitar. We did a duet on Brian
Adams's "Everything I Do, I do it for you". It was a very special
moment, and the audience really loved it.
LMF: Do you have any pre-show rituals that you do before a performance?
U: Before every show, I just sit backstage, or lay down on a couch if
there is any and I close my eyes and I think of why I am there. It's a very emotional moment.
LMF: For a fan that is going to see you in concert, what can they expect from your show.
U: I can say they will break their necks that's how hard they gonna bob
their head. I am working on my show presently and let me tell you that
we are pushing boundaries. I won't give it away, but it's going to be
fun, from beginning to end.
LMF: Do you have a favorite city that you've performed in?
U: I havn't been to many places. But let me tell you Montreal has a great
audience and every venue we have been welcomed like kings my troupe and I.
LMF: Do you have any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
U: Things like that happen!! Matter of fact, I have had an experience
which
was a little unaccommodating. One night I had a gig in a club. We were
told there was a stage there and everything. No problem. When I got
there for sound check, I saw the stage. I think it would be a nightmare
for any performer out there. It was a fashion show walkway... We had to
get rid of the dancing and I only got 2 dancers on there. Then, when it
was our turn to go on, we got on stage and everything seemed to work
perfectly but at one point, I wanted to switch places with one of my
dancers and I almost feel off the stage. I thought right then I was
better off in the middle. Kind of scary...
LMF: What is the best part about being a performer?
U: To me, the best part of being a performer is the contact. People react
instantly to the music and you are there to notice it. And trust me
that is the best feeling in the world.
LMF: What do you like better, recording in the studio or performing live?
U: Man, this is not a question for me!!! The studio and the stage are 2
different worlds with their own emotions involved. None is better, none
is worse. They actually complete each other. As far as I am concerned,
they are both amazing.
LMF: What has been the most memorable moment in your career this far?
U: The first time I heard my song "Arabian girl" on the radio was very special.
LMF: What CD would we find in your CD player right now?
U: Janet Jackson, JoJo, Usher.
LMF: What is the one food you could eat 24/7?
U: Strawberries with plain yogurt and watermelon!!!!
LMF: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be and why?
U: I would take the word business out of "Showbusiness" that way we won't
depend on capital to make music, because music is vital to us.
LMF: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
U: I don't know... I think it is best not to think about it and focus on
the present. And there is way less stress if you do it like that.
LMF: Do you have any advice for someone starting out in the music business?
U: I would tell anybody who wants to make it that it takes one thing,
besides talent. And that is passion. It generates drive and
determination. We are what we think about, that's what my producer
always says!!!
LMF: If you had a fortune cookie, what would your ideal fortune cookie say?
U: Usually is say that I have a good heart (Huge Smile). It doesn't really
matter to me, as long as the cookie tastes good.
LMF: Is there anything you would like to say to the fans?
U: Of course, I just want to thank everyone for the support and that I
can't wait to start touring and meet all of you guys!!!!
