Interview Questions
LMF: Why don't we start off with you introducing yourself.
SS: My name is Skye Sweetnam. I'm 16 years old. I'm signed with Capital Records and my new album Noise from the Basement is coming out September 21st and my first Single tangled up in me is coming to Ads in two weeks. So I'm excited about it. The album is called Noise from the Basement because me and my producer and CO writer James Robertson worked
the whole album in his parents basement before I was ever signed. Cause I didn't really have a deal at the time so I didn't have the money to go to a fancy studio. So it's kind of really raw. So that's my thing and I like to design clothes and I love to make DVDs and making movies. I did a couple of acting things. I'm really into the art, doing my website. I can't wait till things take off and people get to hear my music.
LMF: Do you have a favorite song on your album? If so which one and why?
SS: That one is really hard. Because I, CO write all my songs. so all the lyrics are mine. It's hard to pick one that represents me or the one that I like the most. But there's different things. Like when I'm with my band we sometimes like to do the real rockin ones and sometimes if it's just me I like to play the ballads.
LMF: Not only are you a talented singer, but a songwriter as well. What is the songwriting process like and what inspires you?
SS: I usually write a poem and sometimes my producer James will say that's a cool idea and he'll write something that goes with the theme. We sometimes come up with the hook for the song. I'm doing this for a career so it has to be fun. So sometimes we will go to a movie and that will inspire us or go out to dinner or do just something fun.
LMF: If you could plan your own tour, which artists would you take out on the road with you?
SS: I think it will be really cool to find this underground cool chick singer/songwriter. That's like dying for a break.
LMF: What was your first on stage experience like?
SS: I can't remember it I was to young. I did dance when I was young I also did musical theater. I do remember when I first did my own material, I was 12 years old. I did it in my town square. we have this midnight madness where I played. Then I remember my first time with my band. It's always nice to remember those times.
LMF: Do you have any pre-show rituals that you do before a performance?
SS: Yes, Drink lots of water, make sure I warm up with my warm up tape. Jump around get the energy going with my band. I will always give them a hip check. that's my thing. Then we'll go on stage and rock out!
LMF: Do you have a favorite city that you've performed in?
SS: Paris, It was one of the best shows we had. It was awesome because all the important people where there. The crowd was digging it. Also in Dublin, Ireland. It was so fun. we got to do two shows there with Britney. I been to a lot of cool places like Japan. I'm in love with that place! I love all the style there, love the food. The people were nice. They were giving me presents. It was beautiful there. I'm lucky I guess to travel so much.
LMF: Do you have any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
SS: Yea, sometimes I will go on stage and there's no microphone. There was also one time when my skirt flipped up. so everyone saw my butt. Luckily I wore tights. Me and my band didn't even realize. my Mom taped the whole thing and after the show my Mom showed me.
LMF: Recently, you where on the show switched. How did that come about?
SS: I have no idea? They just called me and asked if I wanted to do the show. I think somebody at Capital knew somebody from the show and they thought it would be cool to do and for me to get ready for the Britney tour. It was really a cool opportunity. I really had a lot of fun.
LMF: Theirs so many reality TV shows, what do you think about having your own?
SS: On switched I kind of did, so I got a taste of it. But I wasn't really living my life. But it was kind of weird waking up with a camera on my face. I bring my video camera with me everywhere. so it's like I'm filming my own realty show.
LMF: You did a new music video for Tangled up in me, what can we expect?
SS: It's me and my band. It's kind of a concept I came up with. the idea was kind of getting tangled up in the wires while where playing because it's call tangled up in me. There's some cool stuff with the lighting. It's kind of power packed rock. I think it's going to turn out good. I haven't seen it yet.
LMF: Your first crush was the teenage mutant ninja turtles, Which one did you have a crush on?
SS: I liked all of them, but I think MICHELANGELO. He was pretty cute.
LMF: Your in your teens now. who are do you have crush on now?
SS: I wouldn't say it was like a celebrity or whatever. I really like to get to know people before I get close with them and start liking them. I would have say some guy from a indie band that i'll go to a concert one night and he'll be singing and i'll be like he's so cool, so hot and then I wouldn't see him again.
LMF: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be and why?
SS: If I could change one thing about the music industry it would have to be that everyone that is involved has to dig music and to appreciate it.
LMF: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
SS: I see myself still working away, doing albums, maybe doing some movies. I see myself growing more in songwirting and learning to play my instruments better and knowing myself better try to find a cool sound cause I am trying a lot of stuff. so in time i'll find my style and make some cool albums.
LMF: Do you have any advice for someone starting out in the music business?
SS: yea, just keep working. take any opportunity you can get to show your stuff and just keep doing it cause you love it!
LMF: Is there anything you would like to say to the fans?
SS: I would like to just tell them to keep rockin the free world. keep listening to music and Rock on!
