LMF: Why don't we start with you introducing yourself.
S: Yo what's the deal? It's your boy Skitzo. Straight fire. Heat all day! That's what I bring to the table. I'm back for a second round with LMFanzine. Last time I was part of a rap group called The Regiment. Now I am doing my long awaited solo project "SKITZO - Limited Edition" mix tape while cutting "The Hood'z Back", my first official solo album. The mixtape comes out this month and I'll be doing lots of shows to kick things off. So let's get it crackin'
LMF: How is it different from being in a group to going solo?
S: Being in the group had its share of good times and bad. More bad than good. But, with a select few people from The Regiment, we still fam. What up Twist? What up Rich? [sarcastic laugh]. Going solo was one of the best things I could have done. It has allowed me to express myself the way I want to, without limitation. I can have more creative control and best of all I don't have to split the check! [haha] I am interested in seeing how the fans will react to me, SKITZO not Skitzo from the Regiment.
LMF: When did you decide to go solo?
S: December 2004. Around the New Year the group was having problems seeing eye to eye. So I decided "to hell with this" and made it happen. I figured the project would move faster with me doing what I had to do instead of depending on everybody else to handle things.
LMF: Is your music the same as Regiment or completely different?
S: Man I have been real since day one. Ain't shit gonna change. The only thing that has changed about my music is the maturity level. You can tell I have grown. All I am trying to do is bring hip hop to where it belongs. That's why the album is called, "The Hood'z Back."
LMF: How's the mix tape going?
S: Great. Couldn't be better. I have collabed with some of my Regiment people [Davine - The Killa Kon, Saint Sidious, Red Don, & King Nightingale] It's been real working with these guys as well as my production team of Niel Guilarte and Willie Harper. It doesn't even feel like we are working on a mix tape. We are treating it like an album. I am being really detailed about how it is being handled. It's important to me. The streets matter to me. This ain't just music I live it.
LMF: What can we expect on the mix tape?
S: Heat. I told you that already. Plain and simple. Punch line after punch line. Hit after hit, concept after concept baby. I hit everything from club tracks to whatever you need to hear. I'm here baby!
LMF: What is your future with HIE?
S: Nuttin but big moves, straight ahead! After the mix tape all eyes go to the album, and I am working on my first feature film with them as well. Plus The Hood'z Back DVD! Look out for it!
LMF: What has been the most memorable moment in your career this far?
S: Working with DJ Magic Mike. One of the pioneers of bass music. A legend in his own time. I'm telling you man, inspiration is the key and he inspires me. By the way "what up Magic!"
LMF: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
S: In everybody's bedroom, on everybody's system and doing nothing but rebuilding hip hop in its truest, rawest form.
I'm a leave ya'll with a little something to think about. Came from nothing, and am slowly becoming close to what I think is hip hop, in its rawest form. Cuz living is a hobby, but hip hop is my life.
