Why don't we start off with you introducing yourself?
Hi, my name is Serena Lauren..I'm 20 years old and from Sacramento, CA. I'll be graduating college this December and I'm really excite about that!
What made you become a singer?
I have just always loved to sing...I used to find ways to stay home alone when I was younger so that I could spent hours singing...and then I started writing songs one day..and thought it would be fun to have a career in music..so I started performing and recording!
When was your first performance?
My first performance playing and siging a song I wrote on the piano was the summer after high school..and the first performance playing a song on the guitar was October of my sophomore year in college...not quite two years ago!
How would you describe your music?
I would say my music is pretty intense and emotional...not quite folk, rock, emo, or pop..but kind of varied combination of all those...
If you could do a duet with any artist out there right now, who would it be and why?
It might be Chris Carraba (sp?..i have no idea how to spell his name) of Dashboard Confessional, Jonathan Foremon of Switchfoot, Gavin Rossdale, Howie Day, or the lead of The All American Rejects, or Jimmy Eat World, or Ryan Adams, ....wow, I didn't realize there were so many people I wanted to sing with!
Describe a day for you, from waking up to going to bed.
Wow, that really depends on the day! Often, I wake up and go to work at Starbucks and then at night I might have a show, or hang out with friends..or work on music...or my online class (not as much as I should)...my days are all pretty different during the summer...I try to journal and read part of a book like "Soulshaping" or "The Purpose-Driven Life" everyday....during school..I go to class,work at Starbucks, hang out with friends, go to church, journal at the cafe, study, and work on music whenever I can...which is hopefully two hours a day...which mean I often put music above studying! (which I don't really recommend, but its the truth!)
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Then I will be 25! I hope to have at least 3 records out by then and hopefully having a nice little career in music going, with a cool group of people to work with..and maybe I'll be married? I don't know! I'll play it all by ear :)
If you could open up for any artist out there now, who would it be?
It would be The All American Rejects or Dashboard Confessional or Howie Day or Switchfoot....
What CD would we find in your CD player right now?
Jason Mraz "Waiting for my Rocket To Come" and Michelle Branch "Hotel Paper" :)
If you weren't singing, is there something else you could see yourself doing as a career?
I would hope to work in the business side of music, if not as a performer..so either way, I hope to be in music!
What message would you like to send out to your fans?
