Interview Questions

LMF: For those unfamiliar with you Jiggy, what can you tell us about yourself and your music?
J: Well I'm very different in many ways from the "typical rapper." I look and dress in a way that might make some people think, "are you serious?” My style is that of a preppy kid, from outfits and hairstyles that vary from the hip-hop look to Abercrombie and Fitch. My music is very "party" oriented. My goal is to make everyone want to dance and get loose when they hear a Jiggy track come on. This doesn’t mean I can’t come with the traditional Hip-Hop sound or the smooth slow jam. I do whatever feels right, wherever my pen and pad takes me.
LMF: Who are some of your inspirations when it comes to music?
J: There are many musicians that have influenced my writing style. When I was starting out in the game, a friend introduced me to the underground hip-hop scene. I was into Hieroglyphics, Living Legends, Rhymesfest and many more. But as I grew I found my love in the mainstream atmosphere. Influences became those who were about the actual music and melody of the song. I’ve always been influenced by Kanye West in a sense. We do not write or deliver the same, but what I love most about Kanye is that he is about the MUSIC. This is also what’s most important to me.
LMF: If you could do a duet with anyone who would it be?
J: As weird as it may sound, my dream is to work with the band MAROON 5. These guys in my opinion are one of the most talented bands out there. They're musically one of the hottest things out. No one sounds like them. So it makes me wonder what we could cook up together.
LMF: There are a lot of artists out there right now, what sets you apart from the rest?
J: I think what sets me apart from most artists is the fact that I keep my music clean, yet it’s something that people would want to move to. I find myself wondering where I would fit in the music business now and then. I have come to the conclusion that the game is missing something like me. At least the Hip-Hop game.
LMF: What was your first on stage experience like?
J: Breathe taking. I opened for New Kids On The Block front man, Jordan Knight. I hit the stage and completely transformed into someone I had never been. I knew right then that this is what I want to do with my life.
LMF: Do you ever get nervous or stage fright?
J: Honestly, no. I never get nervous because of the crowd or the labels who may be watching. Simply because I know I'm going to do me. The only way I think I might be nervous in a sense, is when I feel that maybe something might go wrong on stage. I’m a perfectionist. If something goes wrong, no one may notice, but I tend to let it affect me after I get off stage. Guess I better stop that (Ha-Ha).
LMF: Do you have any pre-show rituals that you do before a performance?
J: Just before I go on stage I form a circle with everyone involved in my shows, the Takeover (dancers), and my DJ/production partner DJWIL. We all say a prayer and ask that nothing go wrong and no one be hurt. We make it known that our Heavenly Father is the ONLY reason we are able to do what we do.
LMF: You’re having a show coming up, for a fan that is going to see you perform live, what can they expect from your show.
J: If it’s your first time watching one of my shows, all I can say is get ready. The show is filled with high energetic dance moves, crowd participation and variety. From dancing to freestyles to talking to my bodyguard Mikey. It’s a fun time. If you have seen my shows then you know to expect a good time.
LMF: Do you have a favorite place that you've performed in?
J: I’ve performed in so many random places to keep the name JIGGY in peoples heads it’s ridiculous. Honestly the MOST FUN I’ve ever had at a venue was not a venue at all. It was a girl’s 16th birthday party, the daughter of Pro ball player Miguel Olivo, of the Florida Marlins. I had a blast, the crowd was live and the house was huge. It was fun.
LMF: Do you have any embarrassing moments on the stage you would like to share?
J: Ha-ha. Well one time I was dancing with my choreographer Janelle in a part of the show where it was just her and I. In this portion of the show, she dances with a cane and we mimic each other to the T. Well at the end of this song, she did a turn and swung the cane over her head. I’m taller than this girl, ok? So of coarse the cane is headed right for my face. I barely get out of the way, but the cane hits the microphone really hard. It looked as though she hit me in the face. The fact that she stopped and gave me a hug to say she was sorry while still on stage didn’t help either. But what can I say, I love the girl! (Ha-ha)
LMF: What do you like better, recording in the studio or performing live?
J: I honestly cannot choose between the two. Because to me, they're different in many ways yet they contribute to each other. Let me explain. When I’m on stage I present the song the way I want people to interpret it when I originally recorded it in the studio. So in a sense, to me, there cannot be one without the other. When I record, I put myself in a musical state of mind and block the world out. I do the same on stage. My love for them both couldn’t be any stronger.
LMF: What is the greatest memory in your career so far?
J: My most memorable moment throughout my young career would have to be when I was first featured on a radio station that I had listened to my entire life and had dreamed about having my music played on it. It was a dream come true. I had been on other radio stations before, but this one was different.
LMF: What is the one food you could eat 24/7?
J: The Classic Club with Bacon covered in red wine vinaigrette from Quiznos!
LMF: What music would we see in your mp3 player right now?
J: Anything from Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Babyface, Morris Day and The Time to Jay-Z, Biggie, Pac, Big L and Justin Timberlake. Right now, I’m a big fan of the Hyphie Movement and one of the greatest writers and voice in the industry right now, Ne-Yo.
LMF: If you had a fortune cookie, what would your ideal fortune cookie say?
J: "Next stop, MTV!"
LMF: What are your plans for 2006?
J: My plans for 2006 are simply to become ten times as known as I am now. To have people playing my music in their decks across the USA, that would be enough for me.
LMF: What message do you want to give to all your fans out there?
J: That you won’t see me change. Keep supporting and I promise nothing but great music. I love you all and not a day goes by where I'm not grateful for the love and support. Keep doing what you do, and I promise nothing but the best. Because I’m gonna do my job baby!
