Interview Questions
LMF: ok lets get started with your names?
iLL-it: Ek-0, AhMen, Hit Material, Enfexous, and Manchild
LMF: How old are you guys?
iLL-it: In order from the previous 18,20,21,21,21.
LMF: What made you become a group?
AhMen: Well we have been a group since we were about 4 years old lol, we grew up together and were best friends, I guess since we all loved to make music, then it was only natural that we start working together to make music.
Ek-o: Yeah we actually got pictures together when we were kids, I dont know if those will make it on the site though lol.
Enfexous: Yup we just sat down and started making beats - which lead to writing rhymes - which lead to forming a group - and who knows where this will lead...
LMF: When was your first performance as a group?
Ek-o: It was the school talent show rehearsal, it was a damn near BUTE...we ripped it, they held rehearsals like twice a week and each time more and more people showed up to see.
LMF: Who are your musical influences?
Enfexous: I appreciate artists like Talib Kweli - Eminem - MosDef - for there content and composition and artists like Nelly - R. Kelly - Missy Redman and Keith Murray for doing things differently Wu too
Ek-o: Im agree with fex, Mos def and Talib Kweli are one of my favorite rappers, but I am influenced by most artists that bring something new to the table. But im also influenced by fellow group members.. for instance,I may make a beat and not feel it like I should until one of the members raps on it, then that gets me hype.
LMF: Do you write your own songs?
Enfexous: Of Course - is there any other way to do it.
LMF: Do you have a demo or cd?
Enfexous: We've actually put together a couple of collections available strictly underground or thru sites like Kazaa and Mp3.com - Hopefully we'll be able to mass-market our next project tho'
Ek-o: Yeah you can hit your web browser to www.ill-it.com to download our last Promo/Album and our New Demo.
LMF: So how does your friends/family feel about you guys singing?
Enfexous: Friends and family are going to support you no matter what - as far as offering feed-back tho' - our friends let us know what they're feeling and what tracks in progress lack so its taylored to the listener from the beginning.
LMF: If you had to define your sound, how would you define it?
Enfexous: a little while ago i started calling our sound "Flip-Hop" cuz its like we take all the talk about ice and guns and negativity that "supposed" hip-hop artist incorporate into their sounds and flip it into a more positive message that people can actually get something out of - some people that are straight 'gutter' may or may not be trying to hear us tho' so i guess we're an acquired taste
Ek-o: I agree. People have described our sound as being "refreshing"
LMF: what makes you guys different then the other groups?
Ek-o: I would say like charisma and uniqueness. Now and days bands come together,or someone puts them together. We actually grew UP together. So the charisma within the group is amazing.
AhMen: I mean we have a different sound than 98% of rappers out today we aint bout the guns and drugs, we more about the good times and even the bad times of life. You can relate to us because we dont have the Bentley or the Mansion. We just have a working vehicle ( If it aint in the shop ) and a place to stay .
Enfexous: what makes iLL-it different than most other groups is the fact that we're more concerned w/ making quality music than w/ the things that a well known artist focuses on because of their status - i personally don't believe in putting out a garbage product and i think we all share that - i also see "the game" as our long shot because there are so many people chasing an identical dream and call me cocky or whatever else but i don't think theres too many out there that got it like we got it.
LMF: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
Enfexous: 5 years from now i will have completed my 6 year obligation to the Air Force (little known fact) and assuming this rap thing hasn't taken off by then... we'll stiLL be doing it mainly because it's never been about what anybody else thought as far as why we do it goes - it's been about an attraction to do it and do it differently and do it well
Ek-o: Hopefully be situated and have our own label..A saying that I agree with is "Success is when preperation and opportunity meet". We are highly prepared..just waiting for our opportunity.
LMF: What would you say to the people that want to become a group?
Enfexous: I hardly feel qualified to give advice to other up-and-comers but for us there was no planning involved - we were all on the same page in the same place at the same time and thats one of the hardest things to do now - but to people who want nothing more than to be 'Famous' or an 'iCON' in the music business all i can say is "you are the person responsible for making or not making it happen when its all over so it's on you".
LMF: What would you like to say to your fans?
Enfexous: to everybody that has an appreciation for what we do (i dont say fans) i'd just like to say that if you want more of the same, i can't promise that - iLL-iteracy will evolve and continue to try new things -but as long as you can handle hearing the truth according to 5 young cats living it, then we'll never disappoint you... we can't...
AhMen: Thanx for all the support and to send us you thoughts because just knowing our fans and knowing that we have fans make it all worth it.
Ek-o: Thanx for the support. Be sure to keep checking up on ill-it.com I know we havent updated it in a while but, lol,we will.
