Interview Questions
LMF: OK lets get started with your name?
CK: Charles Klapow lots of people call me chucky!
LMF: How old are you?
CK: I'm 22
LMF: What made you become a dancer?
CK: I think when I was ten years old I remember watching Singing In The Rain. Gene Kelly made me want to dance. I did tap first for over a year before I moved into other styles of dance.
LMF: When was your first performance as a dancer?
CK: Professionally it was in 1992 with Paula Abdul, Celine Dion, Patti LaBelle and many others at a pediatric AIDS benefit called "For Our Children". It aired on the Disney Channel. I was 12 years old and my first job was the Paula Abdul music video and the Universal Ampetheatre concert that accompanied it!
LMF: How is it to work with the a-teens?
CK: I couldn't ask for a better group to work with! They love what they do! I love going to rehearsals with them because they are excited to be there! They are really, really talented people! It took them so much practice to be able to sing and dance live the way they do! They sometimes sound so good people think its a tape!
LMF: what is you favortie song to dance to when you where on the a-teens tour?
CK: I'd have to say Voulez-Vous. It's the one number where we can just let go and have fun....lot's of freestyling and solos! Plus, the lighting adds to the fun!
LMF: How do you react when someone wants your autograph?
CK: I'm so honored when people ask for my autograph! I usually say something like, "I'm just a dancer or I'm just the choreographer." But when they insist that I sign I don't hesitate at all! It's nice to know that we are appreciated!
LMF: Do you ever watch yourself on TV?
CK: If I do a show or video which airs on TV, I definitely watch it but I don't watch it to see how I did. I watch to see how it was shot and how it looks as a whole. It's the choreographer/perfectionist in me.
LMF: In general, what is life like on the road?
CK: Fun and Free!!!
LMF: Do you get home sick when you are on tour?
CK: A little bit. It really depends on what kind of group of people you are surrounded with on the road. With the A-Teens, it's so easy to get along with everyone so it's not a matter of being HOME sick...I just miss my own BED after a while.
LMF: Do you ever get nervous or stage fright?
CK: I'm always nervous before shows. If I'm not one bit nervous before a show, I know something's wrong. The nervousness gets the adrenaline flowing. It's a good thing. Once I'm out there it all goes away and I just have fun.
LMF: If you had the chance to dance with anyone who would it be and why?
CK: Janet Jackson.....I love everything she does from a dancing standpoint. She always makes an effort to "put on a show". She's an entertainer and she loves her dancers on a personal level and Michael Too! I don't know if I'd be able to move if I would be up on the same stage as Michael!
LMF: So how does your friends/famliy feel about you dancing?
CK: They are totally supportive! I'll book my sister on jobs that I choreograph so I'm sure she's supportive of my career! She's a really good dancer though I wouldn't book her if she weren't.
LMF: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
CK: I have two goals which I would say are somewhat of short term goals. I want to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography in Television and I would love to win an MTV Award for Choreography in a Music Video.
LMF: What would you say to the people that want to become dancers?
CK: I would recommend classical training. Dancers with technical training tend to work more. Take Jazz and Ballet even though Hip Hop might be your main thing. It helps. It makes for a "cleaner" dancer.
LMF: What would you like to say to your fans?
CK: I LOVE YOU GUYS! You're support means more to me than you would know. I'll keep you entertained!
