Interview Questions
LMF: Why don't we start off with you introducing yourself?
BC: Hi Everybody - my name is Bryan Chan and I'm currently working on my first solo album. You may know me from LMNT, our album ALL SIDES was released last year on Atlantic Records, we've been on tour with Britney Spears and the A Teens, we've been on the soundtracks for The Lizzie McGuire Movie and our video for Kim Possible is currently running on the Disney Channel.
LMF: What made you become a solo artist?
BC: Well I've been doing a lot of writing the past three years that LMNT has been together and we finally got to a point where we looked at our schedules and saw that we could take a worth while break. So it was just a good opportunity and good timing for me to finally get in the studio and record my music.
LMF: How would you describe your music?
BC: I'd call it organic pop. It's some great feel good music with me and some live instruments. No gimmicks, no samples, no freaky sounds.
LMF: Do you write your own music?
BC: Yeah, I write a lot on my own, but I also collaborate with a lot of really talented writers.
LMF: If you could do a duet with any artist out there right now, who would it be and why?
BC: Christina Aguliera...any singer that hears that voice knows that the girl's got chops. While I'd be singing the song, she'd probably run all over my notes and leave me dusted...I'd love it.
LMF: Describe a day for you, from waking up to going to bed.
BC: I don't really have a normal day to describe..but i do have the things that usually happen...I'm usually in the studio or at least writing in the studio if I'm not actually recording. I rehearse and practice. I'll perform at a gig or show up for an event. I get to the gym for a workout. I try to get to my computer at least once a day to check email and do interviews. And I would say most of the time I'm traveling from one place to another.
LMF: What is the one thing you can eat 24/7?
BC: Avocados and mozerella cheese.
LMF: Where do you see yourself in five years from now?
BC: Hopefully selling out stadiums with a lot of platinum records on my walls.
LMF: How do you react when someone wants your autograph?
BC: I think that people are entitled to come up and say HI or take a picture or ask for an autograph. That's all part of having a job like this. I get very flattered..I don't get it when people turn down these things, unless people are being rude or disrespectful - a lot of artists wouldn't be anything without their fans.
LMF: In general, what is life like on the road?
BC: It's like living out of your suitcase and you're doing all this traveling but it seems like you're not really going anywhere special....all you see are the insides of hotel rooms, the arenas, and your bus. I get homesick for my grandma's cooking and my own bed. But there's also something exciting about always being on the go.
LMF: Do you ever get nervous or stage fright?
BC: Oh yea, I get serious butterflies, but there's nothing else quite like it. I remember my first solo performance. It was in front of 600 people in a sold out theater. I walked out and my hands we so sweaty that they were dripping...my friends came up to me after it was all over and kept asking "Why were you always wiping your hands off on your pants?"....I still get nervous, but I have my hands under control.
LMF: If you could open up for any artist out there right now, who would it be?
BC: I'd love to go out with Matchbox 20 or John Mayer. They are such amazing performers and amazing writers. Their songs to me are not only catchy but their lyrics are so poetic.
LMF: What C.D. would we find in your C.D. player right now?
BC: Train - Calling All Angels
LMF: If you weren't singing, is there something else you could see yourself doing for a career?
BC: I think maybe I'd be teaching, I love working with kids, but the day I have to give up this job I'll be really bummed out. I love what I do and I wouldn't want to do anything else.
LMF: Last one, What message would you like to send out to your fans?
BC: Thank you guys for everything. I can't wait to finish my album and get out there to play for you live! I'm working hard to get out there as fast as I can...so hang on. You can also get updates from our site at bryanchanonline.com - we'll make the announcements when I'll be heading back out on tour.
