LMF: OK lets get started with your names?
CHK: Well we have Gabriel, Hector, Robert, and Erick
LMF: How old are you guys?
CHK: Our ages have changed so many times we don’t even remember! But whatever age you want us to be will do for now.
LMF: What made you guys become a group?
CHK: Well most people don’t know that dancing is what originally brought us together. The four of us used to be in a dance group together. The whole singing, well that just kind of fell into our laps, we didn’t sit and think…”We want to be a group today” It just happened.
LMF: When was your first performance?
CHK: Good question…The first performance as singers was May 25th 2000. I remember it like it was yesterday, the sound sucked, we were all off key, but boy did we think we rocked the crowd…Boy have we come a long way…lol
LMF: Who are your musical influences?
CHK: The cool thing about CHK is that all 4 of us have different influences that range from people like Dru Hill, R. Kelly, MUSIQ, and Marc Anthony, to people like N*SYNC, Usher, Jermaine Dupri, and BoyzIIMen. So in our music you never know what you’re going to get because each song has its own flavor.
LMF: If you had the chance to sing with anyone who would it be and why?
CHK: The cool thing about CHK is that all 4 of us have different influences that range from people like Dru Hill, R. Kelly, MUSIQ, and Marc Anthony, to people like N*SYNC, Usher, Jermaine Dupri, and BoyzIIMen. So in our music you never know what you’re going to get because each song has its own flavor.
LMF: If you had the chance to sing with anyone who would it be and why?
CHK: You definitely have some good questions lined up…lol…I would want to do a song with…well after leaving this question, finishing the rest of them, and then coming back to it, I think that the unanimous decision for CHK would be to do a song that would be timeless…and in order to do that, you need someone that appeals to everyone. A good candidate for that would be Santana. If we could choose one person it would be the guitar player Santana.
LMF: Do you guys write your own songs?
CHK: CHK as a unit writes a ton of songs. Just like our musical influences our style of writing is so unique because it blends a little bit of everything into it.
LMF: So what about dancing? Is that something you guys like to do?
CHK: Though some of us wont admit it, I think Dancing is more of a love for some of us than others. There’s something about the way you can express yourself while dancing that you just can’t do while you’re singing. But yea, that is something we all love to do.
LMF: So how does your friends/family feel about you guys singing?
CHK: My mom tells me she likes it, she’s really weird though, cause every time I'm singing, she always asks me why am I whining…I wonder why, silly lady??…lol…Honestly though, we get a TON of support from our family and our friends, if they didn’t I think we would all be lost in the music industry, I mean, if your mom tells you that you suck, that really hurts.
LMF: If you had to define your sound, how would you define it?
CHK: I think we were in the car the other day coming home from a show, and Robert made it a point to call our music R&B/Urban/Pop
LMF: what makes you guys different then the other groups?
CHK: That’s easy, we are Puerto Rican!! 100%
LMF: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
CHK: You and these good questions!!! I see CHK about to drop their 3rd album after their second went 6x Platinum. I see us being the biggest selling Latin act ever in the US. CHK Is about to appear on MTV Cribs. Oh I wish all this comes true.
LMF: What would you say to the people that want to become a group?
CHK: Make sure you find the right people to be in your group. One thing that has kept CHK together and such a strong force is that we’ve never added or dropped members to our group. We have been the same 4 guys throughout the whole thing. We’ve seen TONS of groups that switch members like they do clothes for the season. Find the guys for your group and get MARRIED!!!
LMF: What would you like to say to your fans?
CHK: I really think that the fans we have in CHICAGO are absolutely amazing!! Whenever we are down, whenever we have a bad show, they are always there to pick us up. Whether you are a fan, or will soon be one, just know that CHK will repay 10 fold the amount of love and support you guys are showing us. THANK YOU!!!
